Squeezed this recording in and among requisite holiday obligations. This track’s always cut right through me in the best way. Christmas songs are tinged with sadness. Not Frosty The Snowman, of course, but a lot of them. The nod to sadness, I think, is what makes so many holiday songs universal. The mixed emotion.
They’re not sad songs, though. No one would listen or sing them with such joy if they were pure sadness. They’re just wistful and reflective. The great holiday songs evoke all of life at once - the high and low, the beginnings and endings, the times that form you.
Are they overplayed? Sure.
Over-recorded? Lol, here I go adding to the clatter.
Overrated? Never.
In any event, this one’s my fave…
